About Oakland Township, MI - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
Oakland Township is one of Michigan’s oldest townships. It was first settled in 1818, and was one of the Territory of Michigan's original 25 townships when counties were divided in 1827. Its boundaries were finalized upon Michigan's being granted statehood 10 years later, and today this charter township of nearly 17,000 residents occupies exactly 36 square miles. Oakland Township gained recent notoriety as the reputed final location of mysteriously-missing former teamster leader Jimmy Hoffa, but after an FBI search no evidence was uncovered to prove that he'd actually been buried there. The town does have one famous living resident, however: Marshall Bruce Mathers III, better known as rapper Eminem, who makes his home there with his daughters and his brother.
One of the Oakland Township's top attractions is the Paint Creek Cider Mill. The mill was first built on Paint Creek in 1835, and operated for over 100 years under the name of Goodison Mill. Today it houses Oakland Township Parks and Recreation, as well as operating a full-service restaurant known for its fresh-baked cinnamon sugar doughnuts and fresh-pressed apple cider. The Paint Creek Trail, which opened in 1983, was Michigan's very first rail trail, as it runs along the former lines of the old Detroit and Bay City, Michigan Central and Penn Central Railroads. Today it attracts hikers, bicyclists and equestrians during the town's mild, pleasant springs, summers and falls, and is popular with cross-country skiers during its chilly winters.
