About Macomb Township, MI - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
Macomb Township, Michigan dates back to the early 19th century, at which time it was first settled by German immigrants attracted by its flat, fertile farmland and proximity to the Clinton River. It was granted official status by the Legislative Council in 1834, and was named for War of 1812 hero General Alexander Macomb whose family owned much of the land thereabouts. In the late 19th century the logging industry was a major force in the local economy, and the town's Romeo Plank Road follows the route where logs were transported down the middle branch of the river to nearby sawmills. Today Macomb Township has a population of nearly 80,000, a 48 percent increase over the numbers reported in the 2000 census. This significant increase gives it the distinction of being Michigan's fastest-growing major municipality.
The 90,000 square foot Macomb Township Recreation Center, which opened in 2004, boasts an indoor playscape, a gymnasium, an aerobics room, a running track, a party room and two swimming pools complete with water slides, a lazy river and other features. Annual events include the Tons-O'-Trucks and Wheeled Wonders car show in June and two events sponsored by the German-American Cultural Center: Waldfest in July and Deutscher Tag in August. While Macomb Township can experience some pretty cold winters, townsfolk still brave the chill for the annual Tree Lighting and Afterglow holiday event in December.
